Summary
The project focuses on the implementation of the European Commission regulation on reducing methane emissions within the EU, with an emphasis on the Czech coal sector. The aim is to establish a national methodology for monitoring and quantifying methane emissions from active and abandoned coal mines. The methodology needs to be optimized separately for active mines in the Ostrava-Karviná hard coal basin, for surface mines in the Most and Sokolov regions, and independently for closed lignite mines in the Hodonín area. For each of these regions, an appropriate approach to calculating methane emissions must be defined.
